About Me |
Built my first computer in 2001 (after telling my husband I needed a desktop with very specific requirements for my graduate courses -- in library science). At that point, for reasons that still aren't perfectly clear, I also picked up a SuSE 8.2 box set.
After three or four days of troubleshooting graphics drivers, ALSA settings, and dial up connections (yes!) and a week of experiencing the pure joy of "what's this menu option/command/setting do?" it was all over for me. I was hooked on Linux.
And distributions are like potato chips. Who tries just one? Linux trumps potato chips, because this isn't just all you can eat. There doesn't seem to be an end... there is always one more distro...one more version...
Moved from SuSE, and worked along through Gentoo and Linux from Scratch (It's not always enough to eat potato chips. How are they made?) When I find the perfect distribution, I'll clue you in... and I'll go try another when you're not looking.
I live in my Fortress of Semi-Solitude with my husband, two elderly and thoroughly deranged Pekingeses, six Chinese box turtles and fourteen small ground boas.
In my spare time, I like to tell neighborhood children to get off my lawn. |
