A while back we covered oCERT, an interesting security reporting and response effort dedicated strictly to open source security problems. At the time, Google's Will Drewry was one of the early participants in the effort, and now Google is stepping up to the plate to become one of three sponsors of oCERT. WIth financial backing from Google, given the company's supportive stance toward open source, new systems for distributing patches and many more good things could arrive for OSS applications and platforms.
