Instead, they pushed out version 6.0 of their on-the-fly encryption utility, with more options than ever for protecting - and hiding - the critical data on your hard drives. Available for Linux, OS X, and Windows, the software is licensed under its own TrueCrypt license, which is not OSI-approved.

Google Puts Muscle Behind oCERT OSS Security

A while back we covered oCERT, an interesting security reporting and response effort dedicated strictly to open source security problems. At the time, Google's Will Drewry was one of the early participants in the effort, and now Google is stepping up to the plate to become one of three sponsors of oCERT. WIth financial backing from Google, given the company's supportive stance toward open source, new systems for distributing patches and many more good things could arrive for OSS applications and platforms.

oCERT: Volunteer Security Support and Response for OSS Projects

Who ya gonna call? Ready for the third-party, volunteer open source software security police? Open source software is often criticized for not including the robust security features, and response to security issues, found in commercial software counterparts. In addition, code from smaller open source projects is often wrapped into code for bigger projects, which can introduce security issues where there were none before. Now, with backing from Google, several well-known security professionals have launched oCERT--a public effort to provide security handling support and response for open source projects.
