Computerworld reported today that the Linux Foundation plans to add another conference to its events repertoire -- LinuxCon.
LinuxCon is targeting both developers and users, and will ideally foster new lines of communication between these two groups. Unlike some past Linux Foundation events, which were invitation only, this conference will be open to anyone who wishes to attend.
The first LinuxCon is scheduled for September 2009, and will take place in Portland, Oregon. The Linux Foundation plans to have LinuxCon coincide with The Linux Plumbers Conference. This seems logical, as there will be some overlap of attendee base, although it brings back memories of OSCON and Ubuntu Live and the difficulties that nearly simultaneous events can present.
LinuxCon plans to focus on user to user and user to developer networking, technical training, and education. There will be far less emphasis on the "tradeshow" component of many conferences, so attendees can expect fewer marketing displays and more mini-summits, tutorials, and technical talks.
