Fedora 10 Artwork Appeals to Pastafarians and Gearheads

LinuxLoop has a look at gorgeous early renditions of some of the artwork under consideration for inclusion in Fedora 10. Though still grounded in its historical blue, these themes are a real departure from the bubbles and hot-air balloons of past releases.

Of the many themes submitted before the deadline last week, three stand out from the pack. The first, Solar, is reminiscent of a glowing -- albeit blue -- sun. It swirls and shimmers, and the artist has provided several different desktop backgrounds that evoke images of a rising or setting sun, according to the time of day.

Gears has a steampunk feel that, frankly, users will either love or completely avoid. Some will appreciate the metallic feel its creator says is meant to represent steam engines and clockwork components. Others will find it busy, jarring, or cold. Either way, it does a great job of reminding users that the Linux community is a complex machine with many parts.

Neon takes an abstract approach with sweeping tendrils of hot pink and bright purple snaking across the screen. While not as intricate as some of the other proposed themes, its bright, snappy, and might be a big hit with Pastafarians.

In addition to these three themes, there are nine other submissions under consideration. The next step in finalizing which one will make the final cut involves a whole lot of discussion among the artwork team ahead of Fedora 10's release date slated for November of this year.
