Chrome - first attempts to open Gmail (GoogleMail)

By DafyddG - Sep. 03, 2008

Of all the apps that should open easily I expected would be Google Mail (Gmail) - yet when I try, all I get is an empty page (no content) - anyone else had this experience and if so, has anyone a solution please?

No problems for me but i'd have to say i'm not overly impressed with the spped / performance of the chrome application when rendering webpages!

Perhaps google released this a little prematurely

I am also having problems opening up gmail in chrome.

I'm using my work computer and there maybe network settings that are causing the problems. Firefox and IE can both open Gmail.

I am also facing this problem that blank page opens when i try to open gmail.

I thought that , since its a google browser, chrome may open the gmail in different and better style but it just don't open. There is no solution posted yet for this problem.

    Somebody has the solution??

I have the same problem, i am behind the corporate firewall. FF&IE work very well. I think the problem is related to the HTTPS, no secure site can be opened behind the firewall. I can't find any specific configuration in GC for this.

    Ok i did it,

my gmail didnt want to open because i didnt provide the proxy user and pass requested, and it never prompted for them again, so i had to disable the proxy server settings and enter gmail, and then enable it again... and now it works

Behind a proxy also, have to sign in proxy authentication every time launching Google Chrome.

    Yes also can't open gmail

Can Google simplify the browsing process for user behind proxy? IE and Firefox don't need to login, and Gmail works fine with them.

How about just sticking to Firefox! Not such a bad idea, eh?

I'm tired of google trying to take over the world...They're good (actually, GREAT) at search. At everything else, they're average at best. So, stop creaming your shorts each time Google puts something out!!

Basically, Google is making you the QA Monkey - for free, nonetheless and you're still responding with "We're Not Worthy" - Give me a F@#!in Break...

I too can't open gmail using chrome. Does the google chrome use the IE credentials for connecting to internet, as when I try to change the proxy the IE property box open up. If that is the case, as some one said above this is a premature release from google.

I can't login to any of my administrator sections on various website I own hosted on 1&1. I get "This webpage is not available" error.

It works fine on IE7 and Firefox.

I hope Google fixes this flaw soon. I realize it's still in beta, but you would think this wouldn't be an issue. It's so basic.

people, try this: options/advanced/change proxy config./lan settings/ and UNcheck the proxy server.

Then try accessing gmail again, and when you do, re-activate the proxy settings... and from then on, it will enter every time

When you search Google for gmail the first link is

    [mail.google.com/ - 18k - Cached - Similar pages]

Cached means that information about the page is already stored in your computer. If that info is not there that link wont work.

Try looking for another link to gmail a little down that is not cached.

gmail totally does not work for me, same

as above: blank screen with perpetual

    "redirecting" message.

However, I am *not* behind a proxy server,

(other than perhaps an invisible caching

proxy server that my ISP might be running),

so that can not be the only cause.

I'm having a similar problem opening Gmail in Chrome, but I wanted to say that I really like the direction that Google is taking with Chrome.

In my opinion, Chrome is very performant, and I really like the "Web Application" direction that Google is taking. I also like the way that Google has broken each web-tab into a separate process, and how they can be killed independently.

Keep up the good work--I'm looking forward to your patches!
