The open source world provides several technology choices for developers looking to build web-based applications. Java developers aiming to work on the open source application server Glassfish now have some free infrastructure they can leverage. OStatic is offering 100 free hosted accounts to developers looking to build web applications powered by the open source Glassfish Application Server and the open source MySQL database.

Glassfish LogoFor 12 months, you'll have access to a server in the cloud that contains:

  •  1/16th of a quad-core CPU
  •  512 MB RAM
  •  50 GB of storage
  •  Unmetered bandwidth data transferring
  • Pre-installed and configured Glassfish and MySQL

Solaris Logo This is a $1,000 value, and since the accounts are limited, we only request that that you actively use your cloud computing environments for web applications built on Glassfish. We will be offering several more such programs for various other technologies in the near future. If you do release any of your applications back into the open source world, we ask that you list them in the OStatic directory and we will feature the popular ones.

So, how do you take advantage of this?

You can find more information about the promotion here. Essentially, you just need to quickly create an OStatic account and accumulate 400 points on the site.

The Glassfish and MySQL project pages contain more information on these technologies.

We sincerely hope you find this useful and would love to get your feedback on this promotion and similar promotions you would like to see in the future. Enjoy the cloud!

Please note that if you are a member of Sun’s Startup Essentials Program, you are automatically eligible for a similar promotion from their site.

Pretty cool offer and pretty cool site. I'm surprised I haven't seen/heard of you guys before...

I've signed up and am slowly building my 400 points - not as simple as you guys make it out to be but worth the effort...I hope! ;)

What else can I do with my points? Any other free items you handing out??

Can I take the environment and strip out Glassfish and use Tomcat instead?

I don't think you can use any other OS or App Server on this environment. That's probably why Sun has probably done a deal with these guys in the first place

The "catch" is accumulating 400 points...

Unfortunately, I'm not a Java guy but I have been using a similar offer for the free Facebook accelerator that Sun has provided on Joyent...

Well, it is free, and if I can put in a few reviews to get it and that helps folks learn more about FOSS - well - that helps take on M$ anyway.

Wow, thanks for creating this offer. I have been researching alternatives to host Grails apps that are being developed using GlassFish and MySQL. This sounds perfect.
