and by how much? Not looking for a full blown debate on the advantages of Open source v/s closed source but just curious to see the different apps people value the most. :)

Given the amount of time I spend online researching - I'd have to say Firefox. The multi-tab browsing feature coupled with the security has probably had the single largest impact on my productivity when compared to the 12-15 browser windows I had open on IE6 (back when it was my browser of choice!)

Mindmap. It has eliminated the need for spending hours on white-boarding new ideas or project plans. Its simple to use and super intuitive and now I can't seem to live without it.

My favorite has been Mantis. In the past we have used everything from shared xls spreadsheets to homegrown access databases, all of which have been terrible and a pain to maintain. With Mantis we were able to really streamline the but/issue management and we haven't looked back ever since!

Thunderbird is awesome! Finally washed my hands off Outlook and i'm amazed at how much time I save by not having my system hang and starting and restarting it multiple times a day. The hotkeys also improved my email "skills" cause I now I can classify the mails by hitting a key and don't have to worry about stuff slipping through the cracks.

Drupal! No more hacking completely custom sites or poorly-structure web platforms. What used to take two months in web development can now sometimes take a couple weeks. Oh, and congratz to ostatic.com for launching with Drupal. :)

Who are you people? Some of that isn't even 'open source' software!
Linux - by a lot. It's been a long standing stable and high performance platform from which to develop and run applications.
