How does Skype compare with Gizmo, Jaxtr and JaJah

By mfoley - Sep. 17, 2007

I realize that skype has a much larger audience, but how do the others stack up? Programmability, integrability, etc.? I have 2 goals: Integratability so I can add voice capability into existing apps. Second, standardize around some solution for our team. Skype seems to be better for getting the team to have voice collaboration. But the integrability is tough. Any ideas about Gizmo Project or some other tool?

Skype's the big player in this market for sure. It has a good robust API that you can use, and several plugins available. However, they do not use SIP, so you will not be able to integrate them as easily into soft PBXes like Asterisk. They have their own proprietary protocol.
